Ceres applauds Thriving Economy Project recommendations for an affordable clean energy future

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Ceres applauds the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC) Institute for the Thriving Economy Project report, a strong set of hundreds of policy recommendations released today that would deploy low-cost clean energy, support domestic manufacturing, and build a more resilient economy.  

At a time when Americans and businesses face higher energy prices and significant policy upheaval, the report is an important effort to convene policymakers, experts, and business voices to draw up long-term, durable policies to reduce costs and build the economy for the future. 

“The Thriving Economy Project is a much-needed collaborative effort that offers a menu of policies for a modern, affordable U.S. energy system,” said Zach Friedman, senior director, federal policy, at Ceres. “It demonstrates that we can cut pollution and grow a more resilient economy while ensuring companies have the tools they need to deploy and manufacture reliable, homegrown clean energy. We look forward to supporting members of Congress and the SEEC Institute as they work to enact many of these proposals.” 

Ceres partnered with the SEEC Institute in June to organize a federal policy strategy summit with more than 30 leading businesses from across the economy to inform two key chapters of the Thriving Economy Project: “Cheap, Abundant, and Clean American Energy for All” and “A Nationally Secure, Globally Competitive Energy Sector.” Businesses provided deep practical insights on solutions for American clean energy investment, research and development, and the onshoring of critical technologies for economic leadership and security.  

The final report reflects many of the priorities of Ceres and its Policy Network members. It includes recommendations that will meet the moment by deploying affordable clean energy across the country, modernizing the power grid, bolstering innovative manufacturing in the U.S., and driving sustainable agriculture. 

Over the coming weeks and months, Ceres looks forward to working with businesses, partners like the SEEC Institute, and policymakers to build support for a durable federal policy agenda for 2027 and beyond. At Climate Week NYC 2026 next week, Ceres is organizing a salon lunch dialogue between C-Suite executives from more than a dozen leading companies and six members of Congress, as well as panels and roundtables to drive the policy conversation forward.
