Ceres applauds permitting deal, urges action to deploy affordable homegrown clean energy

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Ceres commends Senate negotiators for releasing a bipartisan deal today on permitting reform and transmission and urges lawmakers to act this year by passing this bill to reduce barriers to clean energy deployment. 

“We appreciate all the work that made this strong package possible. Any bipartisan compromise will have trade-offs, but the permit certainty, transmission, and grid modernization components of this deal are strong, and now is the time to deliver reforms that allow us to build the clean energy infrastructure we need to reduce costs for American businesses and consumers,” said Zach Friedman, senior director, federal policy, at Ceres. “We look forward to continuing to work with companies, partners, and key lawmakers to meet the moment and advance this package to drive down costs by accelerating deployment of affordable, homegrown clean energy infrastructure.” 

Several priorities Ceres and major companies from across the economy have advocated for over the past year are in the Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act. They include strong technology-neutral permit certainty and reforms to accelerate expansion and modernization of America’s aging, undersized grid to affordably meet growing demand.  

Ceres brought leaders from more than 30 companies to Capitol Hill for LEAD on a Clean Economy 2026 earlier this year to advocate for a bipartisan permitting and transmission reform package. At LEAD and in meetings with key policymakers throughout the year, executives emphasized that stronger transmission planning and more efficient processes for getting clean energy projects built are critical to meeting rising electricity demand, modernizing the grid, and reducing costs. 

Ceres will also hold a congressional energy affordability advocacy event on October 1 and 2 with business leaders focused on comprehensive permitting and transmission reform. While the Senate deal is an important first step, Ceres will continue to work with companies and partners to urge House and Senate lawmakers to act this year.
