On Tuesday, Ceres, businesses and co-sponsors will hold a media availability at Climate Week Hub Live to discuss the significance of California’s nation-leading legislation—SB 253 and SB 261—that would advance mandatory corporate climate disclosure rules in the U.S. market. At the Opening Ceremony of Climate Week NYC, California Governor Gavin Newsom announced his intention to sign both bills. Â
Supported by leading brands including Apple, American Apparel and Footwear Association, Autodesk, IKEA USA, Levi Strauss & Co, Microsoft, and Salesforce, the bills would require large companies that do business in the state to report on their climate pollution across their supply chains, as well as the risks they face from a warming planet. Some 10,000 U.S. companies would face new climate disclosure reporting requirements. Â
California is in a strong position to implement the nation’s first-ever climate disclosure law, helping the state and the U.S. keep pace as regulators in the European Union and around the globe implement similar laws designed to give investors better insight into how companies are managing the financial risks of climate change. The legislation will also complement the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s proposal requiring climate disclosure for public companies, as well as the global standards expected to be finalized this year by the International Sustainability Standards Board.Â
Hear from Ceres CEO and President Mindy Lubber, Senators Scott Wiener and Henry Stern, and business representatives as they discuss this historic legislation. Â
Please RVSP [email protected] as soon as possible if you plan to attend. The media availability will be livestreamed here:Â https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YjG-DZUk7vI.
