This is a private event held in the Business and Finance Hub inside the Blue Zone at COP17.
As countries strive to align with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework's Target 3 and protect 30% of lands and seas, businesses and financial institutions need to be aware of the risks and opportunities arising for the private sector. This session will start with an explainer from UNEP-WCMC of protected areas and OECMs – what they are and what risk management steps the private sector should take in order to reduce their impacts on these areas. Next, Ceres will share findings from the second Nature Action 100 Company Benchmark 2026 assessment, highlighting how companies in key sectors are publicly disclosing their material dependencies and impacts on nature throughout their operations and value chains, particularly in relation to ecologically sensitive locations. Finally, leading private sector actors, including a Finance for Biodiversity Foundation member, will talk through practical case studies on what steps they have taken to assess and reduce their impacts on sensitive locations, and why. The session will end with Q&A from the floor.
