Ceres joins with many others to congratulate Boston Mayor Marty Walsh on the nomination from the incoming Biden-Harris Administration as the new Secretary of the U.S. Department of Labor.
“Mayor Walsh is a true public servant with an impressive record of accomplishment on a wide range of issues that have helped to improve the quality of life for Bostonians,” said Mindy Lubber, CEO and President of the sustainability nonprofit organization Ceres. “As Mayor, Walsh has addressed a wide range of issues to improve the quality of life for Bostonians. On sustainability, he has an impressive record from residency planning, issuing green bonds, authorizing municipal electricity green aggregation and so much more.
Lubber serves with Mayor Walsh on the Boston Green Ribbon Commission, a group of business, institutional, and civic leaders working to develop shared strategies for tackling climate change in coordination with the city’s Climate Action Plan.
“If approved by the U.S. Senate, Mayor Walsh will have a vital voice on key employment issues as we work to build back better from the COVID-19 pandemic and put people back to work. Based on his personal background and his public commitment to engaging all voices and driving forward a net-zero future, he has the opportunity to create clean energy jobs and build a more equitable and inclusive economy,” Lubber added. “The Secretary of Labor plays a critical role to improve working conditions, support the welfare of workers and advance opportunities for employment. Among the wide range of topics the incoming Secretary will address are opportunities to expand the environment, social and governance (ESG) retirement funds for our nation’s workers.”
