When climate-fueled disasters strike, people depend on insurance to cover the costs—yet many of the largest insurers continue to insure and invest in the fossil fuels driving those disasters. Disclosure is a key tool for pushing insurers to change course. In 2022, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners mandated climate risk disclosure for insurers with $100 million or more in premiums. Participation has grown, but what companies are disclosing falls far short— particularly on forward-looking metrics like climate scenario analysis, Scope 3 emissions, and reduction targets. Experts from Ceres and Green America will break down what insurers are—and aren't—telling us.Â
