Chief Executive Officer, California Public Employees’ Retirement System
Anne Stausboll became Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the California Public Employees’ Retirement System in January 2009. She is the eighth CEO and first woman to head the Pension Fund. Anne oversees approximately 3,100 employees and an annual budget of $1.8 billion.
CalPERS provides responsible and efficient stewardship of the System to deliver promised retirement benefits to 1.6 million members and health benefits to 1.4 million members and their families, while promoting wellness and retirement security for members and beneficiaries. CalPERS oversees an investment portfolio of nearly $285 billion.
Anne served as the CalPERS Chief Operating Investment Officer from 2004 through 2008, and served twice during that period as the CalPERS Interim Chief Investment Officer.
Before coming to CalPERS, Anne was Chief Deputy Treasurer to the California State Treasurer, beginning in July 2000.
Anne serves as the co-chair of the Ceres Board, the nation’s largest coalition of investors, environmental groups and nonprofit organizations working with companies to address sustainability challenges such as global climate change.
In 2012 Anne was appointed as an inaugural member of the Let’s Get Healthy California Task Force, an organization formed to develop a 10-year plan to make Californians healthier. She was also a member of the working group that drafted the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment and served on its Governing Board from 2006 through 2009.
