Brighter Planet, Carbon Credit Corporate, Cone and credit360 Join the Ceres Company Network
Citing the companies’ commitment to improving their social and environmental performance and reporting, Ceres today announced that it has approved four new companies – Brighter Planet, Carbon Credit Corporation, Cone, and credit360.
The newly approved companies are among 80 companies, including over 25 Fortune 500 companies, to be accepted by the Ceres board of directors into the Ceres network. Ceres is a leading coalition of investors, environmental groups and other public interest groups working with companies to address sustainability challenges such as global climate change.
“These companies have all demonstrated a commitment to improve the sustainability of their businesses,” said Ceres President Mindy S. Lubber. “Working with investors, environmental groups and other stakeholders, Ceres is excited at this great opportunity to take sustainability deeper into these companies and their operations.”
“Our work involves counseling and assisting companies to make and carry out commitments as responsible businesses,” said Mike Lawrence, Executive Vice President of Cone LLC, a strategy and communications company. “Supporting Ceres and its mission to address sustainability and engagement by the business world is something we are proud to do.”
From their head office in Vancouver, Carbon Credit Corp’s CEO Shawn Burns explained, “We are committed to stakeholder engagement processes as well as to open, transparent reporting of our activities and we are excited by this opportunity to join the Ceres network. The company was founded on a business-for-development ethic, that is to say, a belief that proper alignment of financial and environmental goals can lead to real change toward a sustainable future society.”
“The Ceres Company Network is a such a vital force in bringing diverse groups together and in helping to shine a light on sustainability challenges and solutions,” said Patti Prairie, CEO of Brighter Planet. “As an environmental services start up committed to practical solutions to climate change, Brighter Planet is honored to become part of that network and to do our part for a more sustainable future.”
"The credit360 team has long admired the work of Ceres and many of the coalition's innovations form the backbone of our work with our client companies," noted Christina O'Connell, director of credit360's North American office. "It's a particular pleasure to now join the network ourselves. We value Ceres both as a source of critical efforts on behalf of sustainability and also as a guide to our own work to continually improve our corporate sustainability performance."
Companies that join Ceres must commit to engage with shareholders and other stakeholders on sustainability issues, to report publicly on sustainability performance and to make additional sustainability improvements. Ceres will facilitate this stakeholder engagement by connecting the companies with the experience and best practices of other Ceres organizations and companies.
Founded in 1989, Ceres is a leading network of investors, environmental groups and other public interest organizations working with companies to address sustainability challenges.
