As long-term shareowners with $108 billion in assets, the Comptroller’s Office and the Pension Funds have a long history of leadership when it comes to advancing sustainable business practices at portfolio companies.

Over the past six years, the Comptroller’s Office and the Pension Funds have submitted shareholder proposals on environmental issues at more than 70 portfolio companies. These proposals have produced meaningful reforms.

Following discussions with the Comptroller’s Office, Microsoft announced two months ago that it would become the first U.S. company to require a core group of global hardware suppliers to prepare annual sustainability reports.

John Liu immigrated to New York at the age of five. He is a proud product of New York City public schools.
