Director of the Trustee Board, BT Pension Scheme, Chair, Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change
Donald MacDonald is a member nominated Director of the Trustee Board of the BT Pension Scheme and Chair of the Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change (IIGCC), a European based investor forum for collaboration on climate change.
BTPS, a defined benefit (final salary) scheme, is the UK’s largest corporate occupational pension fund, with around 330,000 members, of whom over half are current pensioners. BTPS is a member of the IIGCC which seeks to engage with policymakers, companies and investors on addressing long-term risks and opportunities associated with climate change. Prior to taking on his present role with IIGCC, Donald was Chair of the Principles for Responsible Investment for four years.
He believes that new forms of collaborative responsible investment vehicles need to be developed and positioned to meet the century’s strategic sustainability challenges in carbon reduction, water, energy, food and wood, transport and infrastructure.
With a background in the UK telecommunications industry and the trade union movement, Donald MacDonald lives in Scotland, is married, and has three adult children, and four grandchildren. Formerly a keen climber, his main hobby is now trying to repair things that he has accidentally broken while sailing a small yacht on the west coast of Scotland.
