Treasurer Cowell oversees nearly $74 billion in pension fund investments for the 850,000 teachers, firefighters, and public employees of North Carolina. Under her executive leadership as Treasurer, the state has maintained a triple-A Bond rating for strong financial and debt management practices, and is recognized as one of only seven states to earn the rating by the three major credit rating agencies. In addition, North Carolina has outperformed the national average for public pension funds by 32%, ranking 2nd in the United States by Standard and Poor’s in 2009.

Donald MacDonald is a member nominated Director of the Trustee Board of the BT Pension Scheme and Chair of the Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change (IIGCC), a European based investor forum for collaboration on climate change. BTPS, a defined benefit (final salary) scheme, is the UK’s largest corporate occupational pension fund, with around 330,000 members, of whom over half are current pensioners. BTPS is a member of the IIGCC which seeks to engage with policymakers, companies and investors on addressing long-term risks and opportunities associated with climate change. Prior to taking on his present role with IIGCC, Donald was Chair of the Principles for Responsible Investment for four years.

Denise L. Nappier
Connecticut State Treasurer
Denise L. Nappier is the first African-American woman elected to serve as a State Treasurer in the United States, and the first African-American woman elected to statewide office in Connecticut. Elected in 1998, and re-elected in 2002, 2006, and 2010, Ms. Nappier is also the only woman to be elected Treasurer in Connecticut history. As Connecticut’s chief elected financial officer, she oversees $50 billion in state assets, including the $23.8 billion Connecticut Retirement Plans and Trust Funds. Treasurer Nappier serves on several boards, including the Clean Energy Finance and Investment Authority, the first state-established green bank created to invest in clean energy and energy efficiency projects.
