Global Technology & Operations Executive, Chair, Environmental Council, Bank of America
Cathy Bessant is Global Technology and Operations executive at Bank of America and a member of the company’s executive management team. She is responsible for delivering end-to-end technology and operating services across the company through a team of nearly 100,000 employees and contractors worldwide. Bessant also chairs Bank of America’s Environmental Council, a position she has held since 2011.
In that capacity, she oversees the company’s current 10-year, $50 billion environmental business goal to help address climate change and reduce demands on natural resources by and providing lower-carbon lending, investment and financing solutions to clients worldwide. The current goal succeeds a 10-year, $20 billion environmental business initiative that was announced in 2007 and surpassed in 2012, more than four years ahead of schedule. Bank of America has introduced aggressive goals to reduce the environmental impact of its own operations, and it is the only financial services company to appear on the Carbon Disclosure Project’s S&P 500 Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index for each of the past three years.
Bank of America Merrill Lynch also was the recipient of The Banker’s “Most Innovative Investment Bank in Climate Change and Sustainability” award in 2011 and 2012.
