Virgin America's Flight Plan for Sustainability
As America’s newest airline, Ceres member Virgin America is committed to finding new ways to lead the airline industry on environmental issues. Virgin America’s current environmental initiatives include a fleet and flight path analysis program to collect and analyze fuel burn data; operational programs that reduce carbon emissions; employee-focused green incentive efforts; and use of green guidelines in various procurement and operations decisions.
Building Business Support for Climate & Energy Policy
In 2008 Ceres, together with founding companies – Levi Strauss & Co., Nike, Starbucks, Sun Microsystems (now part of Oracle Corporation), and Timberland–launched Business for Innovative Climate and Energy Policy (BICEP) to bring large consumer company voices to the climate and energy policy debate in Washington DC.
Governance: Board Charters for Sustainability
A board committee should have clear accountability for sustainability strategy and performance, whether by a standalone committee or by expanding the responsibilities of an existing committee. Ceres provides best practices and works with companies to implement new standards for governance.
Ford: Engaging Stakeholders to Drive Performance
Ford Motor Company has worked closely with Ceres since 2000 to not only disclose and improve its sustainability performance, but to embed sustainability expectations across its business model.
Dell: Influencing Change Across Industries
Ceres is always looking to open new doors, especially with companies that have enormous potential to drive corporate responsibility across entire industries. A good example is our engagement with computer giant Dell, which faces daunting challenges regarding energy use, toxics, waste disposal and supply chain practices.
Timberland: Raising the Bar on Sustainability Disclosure
Timberland joined forces with Ceres to fortify its efforts as a sustainability leader and gather valuable stakeholder input. Ceres convened a customized stakeholder team consisting of investors, environmental leaders, and representatives of other public interest groups who together have helped Timberland identify and achieve its environmental and social performance goals through targeted feedback and creative ideas.
