Your eBay Shopping Is Greener With New Data Center
Shoppers can go green by bringing a reusable bag, shopping locally or buying items with less packaging. Now, shopping online can be green too. eBay is powering more data centers with innovative energy technologies, making every time you click a chance to use renewable energy.
On September 27th, eBay announced that its new Salt Lake City data center will be powered by alternative energy using 30 large-scale fuel cells. It will be the largest non-utility fuel cell array in the country and the first data center to use Bloom fuel cells as on-site primary power. That means that when you bid on an item, the computer that is running the auction is likely running on renewable energy.
The opening of the data center follows eBay’s work last year with the Utah legislature to pass a bill that allowed them to make direct purchases of renewable energy. Read more about eBay’s new data center upgrade here.
