As a Director in the Corporate Program, John Weiss advocates for sustainability leadership among companies in the energy and energy-related sectors, including electric power utilities, oil and gas producers, and automobile manufacturers, advising Ceres member companies in these industries on sustainability strategy, disclosure, and stakeholder engagement.
John came to Ceres after more than 15 years as a consultant to clients in the public and private sectors. His work has addressed a broad range of environmental and energy-related issues, ranging from the costs and benefits of developing offshore fossil and renewable energy resources and the design of government initiatives to promote greater energy efficiency in residential and commercial buildings, to the valuation of natural resource services harmed by oil spills and hazardous waste site contamination. He also worked for several years at Cambridge Energy Research Associates, where he developed and communicated strategic insights to a global energy industry clientele.
John holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geological Sciences from Brown University and a Master of Science degree in Technology and Policy from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Each year, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Center for Climate Leadership, in collaboration with the Association of Climate Change Officers, the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions, and The Climate Registry, recognizes corporate and individual leadership in reducing greenhouse gas emissions as part of its Climate Leadership Awards program. This year, five Ceres Network members were among the 18 honorees.
