Shirley, a graphic designer and landscape designer, is vice chair of Sierra Club Foundation Board, chairs its Grants Committee, and sits on the Finance Committee. Currently developing an offshore wind project in the Great Lakes, she is focused on creative solutions (underpinned by diversity, equity, and inclusion) that keep fossil fuels in the ground and promote renewables.

Shirley supports organizations that bring unlikely partners together, with an emphasis on the Midwest. She also sponsors a prize entitled "Power Clean Cities" with Clean Energy Trust, a non-profit clean tech accelerator that launches, funds, and grows startups that change how the world generates, consumes, and reuses energy and natural resources.

Shirley lives in Chicago where she works closely with Sierra Club's Beyond Coal Midwest team as well as Sierra Club's campaign to prevent drilling in the Arctic.
