Manager, Corporate Accountability Program
Description & Responsibilities
Ceres is looking to hire a Manager, Corporate Accountability Program. This is a full-time position that will report to a Director on the Corporate Programs.
Specific duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Manage relationships and projects involving the 70+ Ceres companies and 100 + coalition organizations, as well as some prospective Ceres companies. The Ceres company network includes companies from a variety of sectors such as autos, airlines, oil and gas, apparel and other companies etc. Specific expertise in these sectors is a positive attribute.
- Coordinate and facilitate multi-stakeholder dialogues including companies, investors, environmental groups and other public interest groups to discuss corporate sustainability performance and disclosure.
- Demonstrated analytical abilities and understanding of key attributes for assessing the performance of corporate sustainability results and disclosures.
- Sustain and enhance Ceres’ expertise in transparency and disclosure, including the Global Reporting Initiative as an accountability and engagement tool for companies and other organizations in North America.
- Develop and implement new tools for engaging Ceres companies on their sustainability performance including initiatives and projects, which support the implementation of the 21st Century Corporation Roadmap for Sustainability.
- Design and implement workshops, conference calls, newsletters and other multi-media communications to reach companies and stakeholder groups with timely information on Ceres’ programs and sustainability issues. This will be web-based as well as through print media.
- Research, write briefings, develop presentations for the senior director and other Ceres executives.
- Assist with planning for the Ceres annual conference program and other events.
- Support other program teams (such as Industry Programs, Communications, Development) as needed to accomplish organizational objectives.
- Speak at conferences and events.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in business, environment, law or public policy or related field preferred.
- Three years or more of direct experience working on sustainability and corporate responsibility issues in the corporate, investor and/or non-profit sectors, or a bachelor’s degree with at least 5 years relevant experience.
- In-depth knowledge of environmental and sustainability issues and an understanding of corporations (including corporate reporting and business strategy tools), the socially responsible investment community, and the environmental and sustainability movements.
- Experience in North American context is strongly preferred, with some exposure to international sustainability issues as relevant to multinational corporations.
- Substantial expertise on environmental and/or social issues.
- Strong project management skills and attention to detail is required.
- Effective presentation style as well as strong speaking and written communication skills.
- Sound judgment, sensitivity to diverse constituencies, excellent interpersonal skills, strong initiative and motivation
- Successful record of organizing multiple projects, coordinating and facilitating multi-stakeholder dialogues, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work as part of a team and to deliver independent projects.
- Willingness to travel as needed to accomplish duties noted above.

Other Information
- This is a full-time, exempt position based in Boston, MA.
- Compensation is commensurate with experience and is competitive for an NGO position.

Manager, Oil & Gas Program
Description & Responsibilities
Ceres is looking to hire a Manager for its Oil and Gas Industry Program. Ceres works with its investor and environmental advocacy partners to engage with the oil and gas sector on a variety of sustainability-related issues, including climate change, water, biodiversity, clean energy and disclosure. The status of this position is exempt.
This is a full-time position, based in Boston, MA, that will report to the Director of the Oil and Gas Industry Program. Specific duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Collaborate with Ceres coalition organizations (investors and environmental groups) to engage key companies in this sector, with the goal of moving companies to integrate sustainability concerns into their core business operations.
- Provide oil and gas sector expertise to members of Ceres coalition, Ceres companies, or INCR, in the form of reports, briefings or webinars with a special focus on the investment within the oil sands arena.
- Manage and conduct research projects focused on the environmental and social risks facing the oil and gas sector.
- Review and write assessments of disclosure of climate change and other material risks facing the oil and gas sector.
- Partner with the Corporate Accountability Program and Investor Program to design and implement workshops, conference calls, webinars, and dialogue meetings with companies, investors and stakeholders.
- Manage the production of research reports and other multi-media communications to reach companies and stakeholder groups with timely information on Ceres’ programs and key sustainability issues.
- Collaborate with other program teams (such as Insurance or Communications,) as needed to accomplish organizational objectives.
- Represent Ceres as a speaker at conferences and events.
- Travel, as needed, to engage with companies, investors and stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Master degree in business, environment, law or public policy or related field preferred.
- 3-5 years relevant experience with a bachelor’s degree, required.
- At least three years of relevant sector or industry experience.
- Knowledge of environmental and sustainability issues and an understanding of corporations, the socially responsible investment community, and the environmental and sustainability movements.

Associate, Database
Description & Responsibilities
The Database Associate is responsible for managing the implementation and ongoing administration of Ceres’ database, implemented on the Salesforce.com platform, and will serve as the staff resource for the system. The database will be used to track our individual and organizational partners, donors and prospects, e-newsletter recipients, action items and more. The Salesforce database will be integrated with Ceres’ website as part of a comprehensive, data-centric approach to our work. The Database Associate will also serve as second point of contact for general staff technology needs and will report directly to the Director of Human Resources and Operations.
This job offers an opportunity for an organized and trustworthy individual to engage in a variety of data and technology activities within Ceres. This is a full-time position based in Boston, MA and is non exempt.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Database Oversight:
- Manage outsourced Salesforce.com partners during conversion and implementation process (NOTE: These external vendors will undertake the actual data migration, system configuration and first round of training. The Database Associate will serve as Ceres’ internal project manager for the conversion and implementation process)
- As vendors being the conversion process, assist with setting up staff/vendor meetings and manage any resulting follow-up
- Assist with data collection and manage data clean-up process
- Administration
- Manage Ceres’ Salesforce database, for 40+ users
- Develop processes to monitor data quality and integrity and regularly perform database de-duping and cleanup procedures
- Manage ongoing support requests and administrative needs of users
- Develop reports and dashboards to increase the effectiveness of the database system for staff
- Training and Documentation
- Develop training plans, materials, and documentation for database users, keep materials up-to-date
- Coordinate new user and ongoing training sessions on a consistent basis
- Monitor user adoption rates and respond as needed (additional training sessions, communication, modifications, or other resources)
- Work with various functions and end users to identify, document, and communicate standard business processes as they relate to the database
- Planning
- Develop and communicate a schedule for future updates/enhancements to the database software and applications
- Work with management to identify new and creative opportunities to leverage the database to support additional business processes or functions
- Stay up-to-date on the latest technology releases, applications, integrations, and opportunities
- Platform Integration
- Work with online team to ensure consistent integration of Salesforce with web and online initiatives
Technology Support:

- Identify technical and organizational infrastructure necessary to support the database

Qualifications:

A Bachelor degree or 5 years of applicable work experience are required.
- Excellent project management skills. Proven track record of achieving results.
- Working knowledge of the Salesforce.com platform necessary.
- Proficient in data manipulation (Excel, Access, FileMaker Pro).
- Prior success working closely and building relationships with diverse groups of people.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Prior experience with documentation and training preferred.
- Knowledge of donor databases and database integration for websites preferred.
- Prior experience with technology support preferred, or an aptitude for learning technology quickly.

Associate, Corporate Accountability Program

Ceres is soliciting applications for the position of Associate, Corporate Program to support the work with companies of this growing program. This position will support all outreach activities to companies from the Corporate Program team. This a full-time position, based in Boston, MA, that will report to the Senior Manager of Corporate Programs.

• Support Corporate Program Managers in the facilitation of sustainability report reviews and other forms of corporate engagement.
• Assist with corporate research analysis including writing briefings and presentations.
• Support Corporate Program Managers with logistics and notes and other tasks for corporate engagement meetings.
• Assist with planning for the Ceres annual conference program.
• Coordinate with other program teams (such as Investor Programs, Communications, Development, or Operations) as needed to accomplish organizational objectives.
• Manage special projects, as necessary.
• Provide general administrative support, as necessary.
Qualifications
• Bachelor degree required.
• 1-2 years professional experience demonstrating high proficiency in planning, organizing, and administrative skills. Experience as an executive assistant is a plus.
• Knowledge of and/or interest in energy, climate change or sustainability issues, including an understanding of business, the investment community, policy debates, and environmental/sustainability NGOs, preferred.
• Excellent organizational skills and project management abilities.

Ceres interns support program staff working with a wide variety of constituents within the Ceres network: environmental activists, investors, funders, and corporations. While providing some administrative support, interns will primarily work in one of the following areas using skills in research, writing, project coordination, IT and communications.
- Investor Network on Climate Risk (INCR), which promotes better understanding and advocacy concerning the risks of climate change among institutional investors
- Industry programs, which seek to create positive change in specific industries such as insurance, oil and gas, and electric power
- Corporate accountability and coalition programs, which build Ceres' capacity as a force for change through corporate sustainability reporting and stakeholder engagement with companies
- Ceres' annual conference and other significant programmatic events
- Development, which focuses on working with individual, corporate, and foundation donors
- Online Communications, including Ceres.org and INCR.com as well as accessing new online media to increase Ceres’ presence and brand online.
Internship positions are generally for 10- 15 hours a week, Monday through Friday. The specific hours of the internship are determined by the Program Manager and intern.
